Tattoos on a prospective politician?

So, I understand that people like Barry Goldwater, and even Winston Churchill sported tattoos. I really love politics and I plan on involving myself in politics as soon as I am able. I'm still pretty young, obviously. I was wondering, would a tattoo seriously injure and/or cripple my ability to go into administration and/or government? I don't want anything vulgar, big, or bold in an open area. I actually wanted my family namesake tattooed onto my chest, in Sanskrit. (Native written language.) It would not be able to be seen, since a shirt would always cover it. But, what are your thoughts? And would you ever vote for a mayor, senator, president, etc with a tattoo?
